Model Highlights

Versatility abounds with Subaru's 2009 Outback. It starts with the expansive exterior color palette and extends to the myriad of interior comfort and convenience options available. In addition, it also boasts 3 different engine types based on trim level. The 2.5i and 2.5i Special Edition are powered by a 169-horsepower, 2.5L horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic. The automatic comes with Subaru's SPORTSHIFT manual control. The 2.5i Limited edition is powered by the same 4-cylinder engine but is only available in the automatic transmission. The sporty 2.5 XT Limited gets a 243-horsepower, 2.5L turbocharged flat-four with 5-speed manual or optional 5-speed automatic transmission and the 3.0 R gets a smooth, 245-horsepower 3.0L flat 6-cylinder with 5 speed automatic transmission. All Outback models come with all-wheel drive. Automatic editions use systems that can actively manage power to send it toward the wheels where it's most needed, while manual-transmission cars get a viscous-coupling system that sends power equally to front and rear wheels until slippage occurs, then to the wheels with more traction. The Outback has a heavy-duty, raised 4-wheel independent suspension that has up to 8.7 inches of ground clearance, especially useful in deep snow or rutted forest trails. Turbo and 6-cylinder models now both get the SI-DRIVE system, which enables 3 different modes or performance characteristics by fine-tuning the electronic throttle and transmission shift pattern. Sport mode yields quick throttle response and linear acceleration, Sport Sharp mode delivers quick throttle response, and Intelligent mode reduces maximum engine power and torque and allows smoother throttle response so as to also improve fuel efficiency by up to ten percent. Anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution return as standard equipment along with front-seat side air bags, side-curtain air bags and active front head restraints. For 2009 Subaru's VDC electronic stability control system is also standard on all but the base 2.5i. From the base model to the top 3.0R, the Outback offers a wide range of equipment. The base 2.5i is quite simply equipped with expected features like air conditioning, cruise control, roof rails and remote keyless entry; 2.5i Special Edition and Limited add alloy wheels, heated front seats and outside mirrors, 8-way power driver seat and 9-speaker Harman/Kardon premium sound system. Top-of-the-range models get dual-zone climate control, a dual-panel power moonroof, leather upholstery, touch-screen navigation, and LED turn signals. With its "ready for anything" capability and "take everything" versatility, the 2009 Subaru Outback embraces all things rugged and adventurous.
